What are admixtures?

Admixtures are used to improve the plastic qualities of concrete—that means how workable and cohesive it is—when it’s wet. Different admixtures can slow down concrete set time, make concrete easier to pump long distances, or reduce water demand.

Here’s a quick introduction to admixtures and some common products we use

Water-Reducing Admixtures

WR-91 is a low-range water reducer that still helps maintain consistency and improve strength.

Plastol 6420 is a mid-range water reducer used to achieve concrete with a higher slump and strength. Expect to reduce water usage by between 5% and 15%.

Plastol 6400 is a super-plasticizing admixture that enables concrete to be produced with minimal water while maintaining plasticity.

Hydration Stabilizing Admixtures

Eucon Stasis is used to slow down setting time during high temperatures or for extended travel time.

Accelerating Admixtures

Accelguard NCA is used to speed up concrete setting during cold temperatures.

Air Entraining Admixtures

Air Mac 6 facilitates the development of microscopic air bubbles into concrete, relieving pressure caused in a freeze-thaw environment.

Easy Fill is a flowable fill admixture used to produce easily-excavatable fill material with low permeability.
